FiveThirtyEight: No, conservatives aren’t disappearing or anything : BY MATT VESPA

from Doofiegirl on 06/13/2015 06:06 PM

The Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll and Gallup reported on the shrinking conservative base and rise in liberal voter identification in the country.   http://www.gallup.com/poll/183491/republican-conservative-base-shrinks.aspx     http://www.gallup.com/poll/166787/liberal-self-identification-edges-new-high-2013.aspx

"Liberals Make Big Comeback in 2015," reads the Journal's headline, but is a three percent increase in liberal voter identification a surge? Moreover, liberals still represent fewer than 30 percent of voters, so how is this a "big comeback?"

Via WSJ:       http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2015/06/07/liberals-make-big-comeback-in-2015-poll-analysis-finds/

In three national polls conducted so far in 2015, the analysis found that 26% of registered voters identified themselves as liberals — up from 23% in 2014. At the same time, the share of voters identifying as conservatives dropped to 33% from 37% in 2014.

The analysis by GOP pollster Bill McInturff, who looked at survey data from 2010 to 2015, found that the biggest ideological shifts came among women, young people, Latinos and well-educated voters, as well as people in the West and in cities.

From 2010 through 2014, there was little overall variation in the share of people identifying themselves as conservative, moderate and liberal, with conservatives either a plurality or tied with moderates. But that stability seems to be ending this year. For the first time since 2010, conservatives are no longer a plurality: 38% identify as moderates, compared with the 33% who identify as conservative and 26% as liberal.                                                                                                              http://hotair.com/archives/2015/06/12/fivethirtyeight-no-conservatives-arent-disappearing-or-anything/

Okay, let’s do this. If Jenner can be a woman, why can’t Dolezal be black ?: BY JAZZ SHAW

from Doofiegirl on 06/13/2015 05:56 PM

Yes, I know that we already hit this story yesterday. Ed covered it here, while AP weighed in here and here as well. But as I watched the media coverage of the Rachel Dolezal news roll out yesterday I just couldn't let this particular sleeping dog lie. (And I apologize in advance if this is a bit long but there's a lot of material to cover. Please bear with me.) The initial questions about what Dolezal is alleged to have done seems fairly cut and dry at first glance, but are they really?    http://hotair.com/archives/2015/06/12/hot-take-heaven-spokane-naacp-president-allegedly-faked-being-black/    http://hotair.com/archives/2015/06/12/reporter-to-rachel-dolezal-is-this-african-american-man-really-your-father/

http://hotair.com/archives/2015/06/12/naacp-we-stand-behind-rachel-dolezal/

Sure, barring some proof that her parents turn out to be lying or the early life photos are somehow faked, it seems fairly obvious that the woman is about as white as white could be. If you looked in an encyclopedia next to the phrase "white woman" you would probably find her picture. And yes, she seems to have woven an extensive web of lies about who her father is, claimed that her adopted brother was her son and a host of other things which clearly seem to be intentionally deceptive. To what purpose? Was it to advance her career in the civil rights movement? I suppose so, though the NAACP is insisting that she could have gotten that job anyway and that they welcome people of all races.       http://www.naacp.org/press/entry/naacp-statement-on-rachel-dolezal

But here's my main beef with this coverage. As soon as I read about Dolezal it crossed my mind that there was another, underlying story waiting to be told. Even if she knowing lied and deceived everyone, what if she did it out of desperation to fit in where she felt she truly belonged? What if – in a modification of the speech of the LGBT community – Rachel Dolezal was born in the wrong skin and she truly, honestly, deep down in her brain and her heart self identifies as a black woman? Unfortunately, before that question could even make it out of the gate it was being decried by many people, warning us not to try to conflate the story of Dolezal with that of Bruce / Caitlyn Jenner.

My good friend (and radio co-host) Doug Mataconis didn't want to discuss this underlying issue, and in fact went out of his way to be insulting and dismissive of anyone who dared bring up the question.   http://hotair.com/archives/2015/02/06/politinerds-ambassador-john-bolton/                                  http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/the-strange-case-of-rachel-dolezal/                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                http://hotair.com/archives/2015/06/13/okay-lets-do-this-if-jenner-can-be-a-woman-why-cant-dolezal-be-black/

This Week in Awkward Campaign Moments : Daniel Doherty

from Doofiegirl on 06/13/2015 05:48 PM

So what awkward things happened this week on the campaign trail? Let's take a look.

First thing's first, as a result of supposedly 'slumping' in the polls, Jeb Bush made an executive, altogether abrupt decision. Drum roll, please:   http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/11/us/politics/jeb-bush-staff-danny-diaz-david-kochel.html?_r=1

Jeb Bush said Wednesday that he felt compelled to reorganize his political team — and pick a new, unexpected campaign manager — "based on the skills of people that I got to know" and the "magnitude of the journey" he faces as a candidate.
In his first remarks about the reshuffling, Mr. Bush, a former governor of Florida, pleaded for patience and played down the idea that he was displeased with his standing in a crowded Republican field. He is expected to formally enter the race next week. http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/b/jeb_bush/index.html?inline=nyt-per   http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2015/06/08/a-week-from-launch-jeb-bush-names-and-reshuffles-his-team/    http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2015/06/08/hints-and-whispers-preceded-changes-in-jeb-bushs-team/

I'm sorry, that looks pretty bad. Then again, he's doing well in New Hampshire and in national polling, too. So what's the big deal? Is the media making this a bigger story than it is?    http://townhall.com/tipsheet/danieldoherty/2015/06/09/nh-gop-poll-bush-23-walker-13-n2010246  http://townhall.com/polltracker/

Maybe not. Meanwhile, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) was blindsided twice this week by the New York Times, which accused him of both being a hazardous driver and a compulsive spender. However, to paraphrase the words of a prominent Chicago Democrat, he did not let the crisis go to waste:    http://hotair.com/archives/2015/06/11/why-is-jeb-bushs-campaign-surprised-that-he-isnt-running-away-with-the-race/   http://townhall.com/tipsheet/guybenson/2015/06/05/impeach-rubio-and-wife-have-received-17-traffic-tickets-since-1997-n2008630    http://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2015/06/09/nyt-the-rubios-were-totally-broke-when-they-were-younger-guys-n2010147      http://www.cbsnews.com/news/marco-rubio-raises-big-bucks-after-nyt-story-on-personal-finances/

Republican presidential candidate and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is raising campaign funds to attack an "elitist liberal media" agenda, after two recent New York Times articles investigated the Rubio family's financial troubles over the years.
The campaign has raised a total of $100,000 since the Times stories ran, a campaign source confirmed to CBS News.   https://marcorubio.com/liberal-media-alert/     http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/10/us/politics/marco-rubio-finances-debt-loans-credit.html

Not a bad haul, all things considered. Which brings us to our next fun, awkward moment of the week: Presidential contender and "democratic socialist" Bernie Sanders took the gloves off a few days ago, accusing his opponent of engaging in some, well, rather shady activities:       https://twitter.com/McCormackJohn/status/609009481062735872                                           http://townhall.com/tipsheet/danieldoherty/2015/06/13/from-the-trail-5-important-developments-this-week-n2011314?utm_source=TopBreakingNewsCarousel&utm_medium=story&utm_campaign=BreakingNewsCarousel

the planet is getting hotter over all and the carbon has increased but the corralation is nowhere to be found. in all likeliness its a natural cycle that has been charted and once we hit that peak get ready for shit to get real cold real soon.

Twin Peaks – Twin Lies : Paul Driessen

from Doofiegirl on 06/13/2015 05:33 PM

Editor's note: This column was co-authored by Tom Tamarkin.

A recent NOAA article is just what Doctor Doom ordered. It claims the 18-year "hiatus" in rising planetary temperatures isn't really happening. (The "pause" followed a 20-year modest temperature increase, which followed a prolonged cooling period.) The article states:   http://www.sciencemag.org/content/early/2015/06/05/science.aaa5632.abstract

"Here we present an updated global surface temperature analysis that reveals that global trends are higher than reported by the IPCC, especially in recent decades, and that the central estimate for the rate of warming during the first 15 years of the 21st century is at least as great as the last half of the 20th century. These results do not support the notion of a 'slowdown' in the increase of global surface temperature."

Published in Science magazine to ensure extensive news coverage before critics could expose its flaws, the report was indeed featured prominently in the national print, television and electronic media.

It's part of the twin peaks thesis: Peaking carbon dioxide levels will cause peaking temperatures, which will lead to catastrophic climate and weather. Unfortunately for alarmists, the chaos isn't happening.

No category 3-5 hurricane has hit the United States for a record 9-1/2 years. Tornadoes, droughts, polar bears, polar ice, sea levels and wildfires are all in line with (or improvements on) historic patterns and trends. The Sahel is green again, thanks to that extra CO2. And the newly invented disasters they want to attribute to fossil fuel-driven climate change – allergies, asthma, ISIS and Boko Haram – don't even pass the laugh test.           http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/environment/article4457633.ece The NOAA report appears to have been another salvo in the White House's attempt to regain the offensive, ahead of the Heartland Institute's Tenth International Climate Conference.       http://climateconference.heartland.org/                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                However, a growing number of prominent analysts have uncovered serious biases, errors and questions in the report.                                                                                                                             http://townhall.com/columnists/pauldriessen/2015/06/13/twin-peaks--twin-lies-n2010591?utm_source=TopBreakingNewsCarousel&utm_medium=story&utm_campaign=BreakingNewsCarousel                                                                                                                                                                                 http://townhall.com/columnists/pauldriessen/2015/06/13/twin-peaks--twin-lies-n2010591/page/2

Boko Haram Burns Six Nigerian Villages, 37 Dead : Aaron Bandler

from Doofiegirl on 06/13/2015 05:23 PM

Boko Haram, the Islamic group that recently pledged allegiance to ISIS, burned down six Nigerian villages which resulted 37 deaths.

Fox News has the details:

Ahmed Ajimi, a fighter in the anti-Boko Haram Nigerian Vigilante Group, said many victims of Wednesday night's attacks were farmers who had recently returned home after soldiers earlier this year forced the extremists out of the area where they had declared an Islamic caliphate.

Now they are refugees again, with many survivors suffering gunshot wounds and burns, Ajimi told The Associated Press in a telephone call from Biu town, 60 miles west of the destroyed villages.

Hit-and-run attacks and suicide bombings have continued. Boko Haram last week denied Nigerian military reports that militant fighters are hemmed into the Sambisa Forest and claimed its fighters still hold towns hundreds of miles away. There was no way to verify the competing claims.

"It was really horrifying," Ajimi said, describing the insurgents shooting from the back of pickup trucks and hurling firebombs that quickly set ablaze the thatched roofs of scores of huts.

He said he spent the night in the bush and returned on Thursday to help bury 37 corpses.

Unfortunately, this is becoming a regular occurrence in Nigeria, as Boko Haram continues to terrorize the country. It should also be noted that when Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State, she didn't label Boko Haram as a terrorist group, which likely had to do with a top Nigerian official donating millions of dollars to the Clinton Foundation.    http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/article/2565784?utm_content=buffer60676&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer                                http://townhall.com/tipsheet/aaronbandler/2015/06/12/boko-haram-burns-six-nigerian-villages-37-dead-n2011923?utm_source=thdaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl&newsletterad=

being anti israli tactics doesnt mean your antisemetic. jewish people may be a large population over ther but there are other people there. would you say someone is antichristian because they didnt agree with bombing hirosima? its a matter of personal ethics on the battle feild and in politics not racism (which is silly as anyone can be jewish and it is not genetic but a culture.)
