'Hey! Look at me!' By Joe Fitzgerald

It's somewhat ironic that at the renewed height of sensitivity over the symbolism of the Confederate flag, the president, who chooses his words like a housewife choosing tomatoes, gratuitously utters the word no one else in public life would dare to utter.
He certainly didn't have to employ it to make his point that racism goes much deeper that "saying the N-word," which he, in fact, said; it was clearly a calculated comment, a cheap exploitation of his bully pulpit.

His point would have been just as well-served without it.

As he rounds third and heads for home in the twilight of his presidency, it's a shame Barack Obama has fallen so short of all he could have been that he's now reduced to classless moments like these: "Hey, look at me! I'm the president and I just said what none of you can say."

Grow up, Mr. President. If none of us ought to say it, neither should you.

Back when he was still a candidate, long before the arrogance of incumbency set it, he showed signs of bringing to Washington a presence that even his detractors would have appreciated. Just by being who he was, he could have said things that needed to be said because life had given him the credentials to say them.

Down in Alabama, speaking at a commemoration of the Voting Rights Act, candidate Obama waded into a thorny topic that transcends politics.

"We have too many children in poverty in this country and don't tell me it doesn't have a little to do with the fact that we've got too many daddies not acting like daddies," he said. "Don't think fatherhood ends at conception. I know something about that because my father wasn't around when I was young. I know what it means when you don't have a strong male figure in the house."

Afghanistan? Iraq? The economy? National security? Foreign trade? Immigration? Education?

They were all important issues in that campaign, thoroughly explored in stump speeches and debates, but it's hard to recall a single comment by any candidate that had the power to touch hearts more than what Obama told that Alabama audience.

The New Deal? The Great Society?

What might have described the Obama presidency if he had zeroed in on domestic issues no one is comfortable discussing?

As the Quaker poet John Greenleaf Whittier lamented, "Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: 'It might have been.' "

Indeed. Instead he uses the N-word to get our attention.

Holy Hypocrisy and Hot Air By Michelle Malkin

Unlike Pope Francis, I believe that air-conditioning and the capitalists responsible for the technology are blessings to the world.

Perhaps the head of the Catholic Church, who condemned "the increasing use and power of air-conditioning" last week in a market-bashing encyclical, is unaware of the pioneering private company that has donated its time, energy and innovative heating, ventilating and air-conditioning equipment to the Vatican's most famous edifice for more than a decade.

That's right. While the pontiff sanctimoniously attacks "those who are obsessed with maximizing profits," Carrier Corporation -- a $13 billion for-profit company with 43,000 employees worldwide (now a unit of U.S.-based United Technologies Corp.) -- ensures that the air in the Vatican's Sistine Chapel stays clean and cool.

Last fall, Carrier unveiled a groundbreaking HVAC system for the Vatican to help preserve Michelangelo's masterpieces against pollution caused by the estimated six million visitors who descend on the Sistine Chapel every year to see its famous frescoes.

As the company described it, their new solution "uses two Carrier AquaForce(r) 30XWV water-cooled chillers with Greenspeed(r) intelligence, each with 580 kilowatts of capacity. It leverages specially designed software and components, as well as patented, energy-saving technologies to maintain optimal climate conditions for the protection of the paintings within the chapel." State-of-the-art intelligent controls "anticipate visitor levels and adjust its performance intuitively." It also "delivers twice the efficiency and three times the capacity of the former system, which was built and installed by Carrier in the early 1990s."

Here's the lesson about air-conditioning capitalists that Pope Francis fails to appreciate: Carrier's technological know-how and breakthroughs didn't just descend from the clouds. As I recount in my latest book, "Who Built That," every perfectly chilled home, office, movie theater, mall, factory, hospital, lab and museum owes its existence to the profit-seeking pioneers of manufactured weather: Willis Carrier and Irvine Lyle.

These early 20th-century inventive giants brought air-conditioning to the market and to the masses. Willis Carrier was the scientist-tinkerpreneur whose prolific stream of experiments and epiphanies, beginning in 1902, fueled historic technological advances in heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning. Irvine Lyle was the mechanical engineer-turned-salesman who imagined countless new commercial applications for Carrier's work -- and successfully turned those ideas into a multibillion-dollar business through relentless promotion, pitches, networking, advertising and outreach.

The scientists and their core team begged, borrowed and made stock sales to friends and neighbors. Carrier even enlisted his dentist for cash to get Carrier Engineering Corporation up and running in 1915. Carrier, Lyle and five founding engineers together pitched in $32,600 in start-up funds.

The Carrier capitalists risked it all in defiance of an economic depression and amid the tumult of world war. They couldn't afford their own factory and scrounged for made-to-order parts wherever they could find them. They dug into their own pockets to cover salary shortfalls. The wealth wasn't handed to them. Carrier and Lyle, farm boys who both graduated from Cornell, drove their men hard and themselves harder.

The Carrier team sold its products to businesses, large and small, that spanned the spectrum of human needs and wants. The pope should know that in addition to sparing countless lives from death by heat wave, Carrier designed a special system for Jonas Salk that helped maintain constant temperatures in the vats where Salk's poliovirus strains grew. The Salk vaccine saved thousands of lives and spearheaded the vaccine revolution.

From Hollywood to the pharmaceutical industry to textiles to the retail industry to the military to homeowners, there isn't a sector of the American economy that Carrier and Lyle didn't help transform. Their zealous focus on helping businesses provide better products at cheaper costs resulted in the invaluable byproducts of increased health, comfort and happiness.

While the pope blames commercial enterprises and the "global market economy" for causing "environmental degradation," it is a worldwide commercial enterprise made in America that solved the human-caused degradation of, and environmental damage to, the Vatican's most prized art and assets.

If the pontiff truly believes "excessive consumption" of modern conveniences is causing evil "climate change," will he be shutting down and returning the multimillion-dollar system Carrier generously gifted to the Vatican Museums?

Parodies and satire are built on the consequential absurdities of some statement, incident, or argument.
Who would have ever thought that an Olympic athlete would claim to be a woman, or that any man would want to be a woman and certain elements in society would claim that such transitioning deserves an Olympic-type of medal of its own for making such a "heroic" decision?
Now we're being told that by taking down the Confederate Battle Flag that all will be right with the world. While Flip Wilson's Geraldine's character claimed "the devil made me do it," we're to believe that a flag made Dylann Roof murder five black people during a prayer meeting in a church.
Let's remember that South Carolina elected a woman of Indian descent as governor and a black man as U.S. Senator -- both Republicans.
If the Confederate Battle Flag is offensive, let's not forget that the American flag and Constitution are also offensive to many. The American flag, not the Confederate Battle flag or the Southern flag (they are different), flew on slave ships. The Constitution did not abolish slavery, so it has to go as well.
Northern states were involved in the slave trade. There's still a great deal of racism and bigotry in the north. For example, on June 24, 1924, the Ku Klux Klan held an outdoor meeting in Tionesta, Pennsylvania, that drew a crowd of 4,000. It was described as "the largest crowd ever seen in Tionesta up to that date despite heavy rains in the early part of the day." New York and Chicago had large Klan membership.

If Illegals Love Their Home Countries So Much, Why Don’t They Go Back? : by Dave Jolly

Over the years, millions of illegal aliens have flooded into our country in hope of a better life. You really can't blame them, but that does not excuse the fact that they broke the law by entering our country illegally.
Yet, so many of them do their best to turn America into their home country that they fled from.
As more illegals flood into our country, they are changing our culture and our freedoms. We've seen instances where American students have been disciplined for wearing or displaying the American flag here in America because it offended Hispanic students, some of which were illegals. A school in California displayed the Mexican flag above the American flag on a Mexican holiday, which is a clear violation of Section 7 (c) of the US Flag Code as passed by Congress in 1942, yet liberal judges have ruled it okay. In some US schools, classes are only taught in Spanish with no effort made to teach English to the illegal Hispanic students.
Illegals say they are coming here for a better life yet I have personally seen many neighborhoods ruined and turned into Mexican ghettos by the very illegals wanting a better life. The Mesa, Arizona neighborhood I once lived in was a family friendly neighborhood where you felt fairly safe. We had no problem with taking walks at night.
Then illegals from Mexico started moving into the neighborhood. One house would hold 20 to 40 illegals. Soon after, burglaries and graffiti increased. The homes of the illegals turned into trash piles. From there the neighborhood went downhill fast, destroying property values and making it a financial nightmare for good neighbors to sell and move.

Obama Doesn’t Ship Jobs Overseas, He Brings Foreigners Here to Take Our Jobs : by Dave Jolly

Flash back three years to the 2012 presidential campaign. Barack Obama and Joe Biden sounded like a broken record when they continually accused Mitt Romney of shipping American jobs overseas. They painted Romney as some cruel tyrant who spent his entire life trying to put Americans out of work.
Sadly, Romney and other Republican candidates running for office in 2012 failed to point out Obama's hypocrisy. They should have told the American people how Obama's administration awarded a military contract worth $345 million to a Brazilian company when Kansas based Beechcraft Corp was blocked from entering a bid for the contract. Had an American company been awarded the contract it would have created about 1,400 new jobs.
GOP candidates should have told the American people how $20 million of the infamous Stimulus money went to a friend of Biden's so he could open a luxury car dealership in the Ukraine. US taxpayers were on the hook for $750 billion to help spur the US economy and create jobs for Americans not Ukrainians or others overseas.
So rather than being accused of shipping jobs overseas, Obama has taken a different approach to put more Americans out of work. He is pushing hard to raise the number of H1-B work visas from 65,000 a year to 195,000. An H1-B is supposed to be awarded only to foreign nationals who have special skills that cannot be readily found in the American workforce.

While the news seems like it must be satire, the British police really are offering amnesty for people who turn in their knives.
Only two days ago I wrote about a vicious attack on an unarmed young man by a group o.... We have joined forces with the ground-breaking national anti-knife crime campaign 'Save a Life, Surrender Your Knife', as the force's knife amnesty comes to an end.
Since the amnesty began at the end of August, more than 800 knives have been handed in across the county – including swords, machetes and commando knives. The amnesty was extended for a further week owing to its success.
Lancashire officers have now given their backing to a national initiative designed to raise awareness of knife crime and encourage the surrender of dangerous weapons.
The British Ironwork Centre, which is coordinating the project, intends to use the collected knives to create a 20 feet high guardian angel sculpture in memory of those whose lives have so tragically been lost.
Despite the amnesty ending this week, police say people can continue to hand in any knife at any police station with a front counter as well being able to drop them into the designated bins.
Police are looking to keep the bins and extend the number of locations to include job centres, community centres and leisure centres.

So when I point out that the logic of gun control is going to have to keep going to make sure that other weapons (and tools!) are removed from the public, we have some empirical validation for my claim.
And it is worse. Not only does the logic of gun control mandate knife control, but the acceptance of gun control rots the brain, metaphorically speaking. Read the words above. Go read the rest of the Facebook post. That entry is not satire from the Onion. These are serious people dealing with a serious social problem. And they are acting like children. They expect everyone else to be like children.
How else could it be? Children don't get to be free. They are under parental oversight and authority until they grow up. By treating adults as people who can't be trusted with sharp objects and must be kept safe from them, the police are treating the entire Lancashire adult population as a big crowd of young children. You may remember that point when you felt your son (or daughter) was "old enough" to be given his own knife for his birthday. Perhaps you remember that special birthday when you were a child and your parents gave you a knife.
The official position of the British police is that everyone is younger than that. And from cradle to grave they live in a never never land where no one may grow up.

Michael Savage: Obama Inciting Race War, ‘May As Well Be Charles Manson’ -

(Right Wing Watch) – On Friday, radio host Michael Savage compared both President Obama and Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof to Charles Manson, claiming that both the president and the shooter are trying to create a race war in America.

"It's the scenario that Charles Manson wanted, to start a race war, which he called Helter Skelter, which was committing these horrible murders in the Hollywood Hills and then blaming it on blacks and then there would be a murderous rampage against blacks by frightened whites," Savage said. "Well, now it's the reverse and we're all fearing a murderous rampage against whites by blacks to provoke an internecine war of near extermination. That is what we could have happen here in this country right now."

Another Stupid Anti-Gun Meme : by Gary DeMar

There are too many Americans who can't think straight anymore (if they ever could). They say stupid things that they believe are good arguments. Most likely they pass on somebody else's stupid "argument" believing that it answers an intended objective.
Unfortunately, these people are permitted to vote. A few years ago I wrote a book with the title Thinking Straight in a Crooked World. The ministry I've worked for since 1980 also published the book Biblical Logic: In Theory and Practice by Joel McDurmon.
These two books would go a long way to help people learn to think in terms of adopted but sometimes unrealized presuppositions.
Most schools don't teach critical thinking skills. If young people actually learned to think critically, they might question the curriculum of their school.
A friend of mind spoke with a pastor of a church about teaching a class on critical thinking consisting of logical fallacies. The pastor told him, "I don't want my people to learn how to think critically. They might question what I'm teaching them."

How can the failure of the War on Terror mean that we need more of it?

The point of most politics is to make us afraid. As H. L. Mencken put it long ago, "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." This explains everything from Climate Change to the war on terror—even though I would not say that all of the terrorists are imaginary.

Still, after 9/11 we have been spending incredible amounts of money and doing incredible things with drones and troops all over the planet. What do we have to show for all we have done in the War on Terror?

Apparently, not much.

Thus, CBS DC reports, "House Intel Committee Chair: US Is At 'The Highest Threat Level We Have Ever Faced In This Country'"

The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee warns that America is dealing with "the highest threat level we have ever faced in this country."

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., told CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday that the threat is coming from the radicalization of young people and foreign fighters heading to Iraq and Syria to join terror groups.

"They're very good at communicating through separate avenues where it's very difficult to track," Nunes said. "That's why when you get a young person who is willing to get into these chat rooms, go on the Internet and get radicalized, it's something we are not only unprepared [for], we are also not used to it in this country."

Several Americans across the U.S. have been arrested and charged recently with being ISIS sympathizers and trying to join the terror group. Nunes stated "we are having a tough time tracking terrorist cells within the United States."

"It's just tough to secure those types of areas if you have someone who wants to blow themselves up or open fire or other threats of that nature and we just don't know or can track all of the bad guys that are out there today," he explained to "Face the Nation."

But we created ISIS because we recruited radicals to overthrow regimes first in Libya and then in Syria. Just like Lyndon Johnson's war on poverty spread more poverty, our war on terror has created more terrorism than ever before. Did anyone have to fear Al Qaeda terrorists actually conquering territory back in 2001?
